The component is part of the "Innovative Bulgaria" pillar and aims to provide a favourable environment for the implementation of new products and processes and the development of innovative enterprises by strengthening and stimulating scientific activity in higher education institutions, as well as the overall improvement of the scientific research system.
The component includes a total of one (1) reform and two (2) investments. The planned reform involves building trust and improving links between academia and business for efficient and rapid technology transfer.
Investment "Program for accelerating economic recovery and transformation through science and innovation" consists of two (2) pillars, aimed - 1. at strengthening the research and innovation potential and 2. creating a network of universities for research in Bulgaria.
- The beneficiary under pillar 1. will be the Ministry of Innovation and Growth and under pillar 2. the Ministry of Education and Science;
- The total available budget for the investment through financing from the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism is BGN 366 million excluding VAT.
Investment "Increasing the innovation capacity of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) in the field of green and digital technologies" aims to retrain and redirect a large part of the scientific potential of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to conducting research aimed at solving technological problems with priority to low-carbon energy and circular economy, recycling, as well as modern digital technologies and intelligent data exchange security systems.
- The beneficiary under pillar 1. will be the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and its units;
- The total indicative budget for the investment through financing from the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism is BGN 46 million excluding VAT.
