The component is part of the "Connected Bulgaria" pillar and aims to increase the competitiveness and sustainable development of the country's regions, as well as the promotion of local development.
The component includes a total of two (2) reforms aimed at a new regional approach with direct involvement of local communities in the management of funds from European funds and instruments and continuation of the reform in the water sector, and two (2) investments.
Investment "Program for construction/reconstruction/reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems, incl. and wastewater treatment plants for agglomerations between 2,000 and 10,000 people" aims to provide infrastructure for the removal and treatment of wastewater and technical capabilities to implement remote control of the quality of discharged wastewater and of groundwater pollution and surface water to protect human health, improve quality of life, regional development and sustainability.
- The beneficiary of the program is "Bulgarian Waterworks Holding" Ltd and waterworks operators of separate territories of Burgas, Varna, Dobrich, Kardjali, Plovdiv, Silistra, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol and Smolyan;
- The total budget of the project is BGN 392 million, of which BGN 300 million is financed by the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism and BGN 92 million is financed by the beneficiary.
Investment "Digitalisation for complex management, control and efficient use of water" aims to improve the management of water quantity by digitizing the process and improving the control of water use, to ensure the minimum allowable runoff and improve information on water resources through automation of the measurements.
- Beneficiaries of the program are the Ministry of Environment and Water, the Water Management Directorate, the Executive Agency for Environment and Water, Irrigation Systems EAD, National Electric Company EAD and the National Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology;
- The total budget of the project is BGN 134 million, of which BGN 112 million is financed by the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism.
